The AEO : The passport to simplified, reliable and reliable international trade

To facilitate trade and secure global supply chains, the World Customs Organisation (WCO) has introduced the concept of Authorised Economic Operator (AEO). We will therefore explore in detail what the AEO is, how to obtain this prestigious status and the advantages it offers companies that hold it.

The AEO is an internationally recognised status which certifies that a company meets high standards of customs compliance and security. It aims to strengthen cooperation between customs authorities and economic operators, establishing a partnership based on mutual trust.

To obtain AEO status, companies must comply with strict criteria defined by the WCO and national Customs authorities. Requirements may vary from country to country, but generally companies must demonstrate financial solvency, compliance with Customs regulations, a history of compliance and a commitment to supply chain security.

The benefits of AEO status are numerous, including simplification of customs procedures, priority treatment in these processes, a guarantee of credibility and professionalism in the field of international trade, and access to programmes offering additional advantages in terms of security, compliance and international recognition.

All players in the international supply chain are eligible for AEO status, whatever their size: importers, exporters, hauliers, logisticians, airport entities responsible for the routing and temporary storage of freight, customs agents and freight forwarders in particular.

To obtain AEO status, it is advisable to appoint an AEO project manager within the company. This person will be responsible for coordinating the self-assessment phase, setting a timetable for the progress of the application, acting as the point of contact for customs during the audit, and ensuring ongoing compliance with the obligations associated with the status.

The Business Advisory Unit (CCE) of the Economic Action Pole (PAE) of the Regional Customs Directorate is available to support companies throughout the process.
