Customs data management is a regulated area, which means that certain rules must be followed. Having the right data at the right time is crucial for optimal compliance. That is why we have been working hard on this issue for the past year. This task is more complex than it seems, not least because of the many sources of data, each using different file formats. Nomenclature, measurements, classification decisions managed at different levels, notes, etc., are all examples of information to be processed.

How do you ensure the accuracy and consistency of this data?

At CustomsBridge, we have implemented an automation solution based on the Airflow platform. This open-source technology, originally developed by Airbnb, allows us to plan workflows and run computer programs with dependencies between different processes.

For example, we can run process B only after process A has been successfully completed, or simultaneously and independently run process C.

If all tasks are completed successfully, it means that we have retrieved all the necessary data of the day, including the BOM, classification decisions and notes. The system also sends a report by e-mail to check the consistency of the retrieved data.

This consistency of data is ensured by the structure of our database, as all data stored in our system is linked together. For example, if a nomenclature code does not exist, we immediately alert the people in charge of its management.

If a measure requires a certificate that does not exist in our database, we alert the people concerned. Finally, if a nomenclature code is present twice and in a different position in the tree structure, we take the necessary measures to resolve the problem. Thanks to the responsiveness of our contacts, most problems are solved before our users even realise it.
